The San Diego Padres avoided arbitration with their presumed Opening Day starter Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $4.05-million deal with right-hander Andrew Cashner, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Cashner, the 19th overall selection in the 2008 draft, enjoyed a solid campaign with the Padres in 2014 despite spending nearly three months on the disabled list with a variety of arm problems.
The 28-year-old crafted a career-best 2.55 ERA (131 ERA+) with a 1.13 WHIP over 19 starts, allowing just seven home runs and 29 walks over 123 1/3 innings.
Cashner also managed a solid 48.5 percent ground-ball rate and limited right-handed batters to a .573 on-base plus slugging.
