Mets manager on Murphy's Opening Day status: 'He's running out of time'
Bad news for New York Mets fans.
Second baseman Daniel Murphy is likely to start the season on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, according to manager Terry Collins.
"He's running out of time," Collins told ESPN's Adam Rubin. "We don't have a lot of time. I'm going to talk to Dan tomorrow. We don't have a lot of time to get him ready. I got word of what he did today (running), and we certainly have to speed it up a little bit. So I'm getting concerned he's not going to have enough time."
Murphy, who hit .289 with nine home runs and 57 RBIs in 143 games last season, pulled his right hamstring eight days ago and resumed running Thursday. He isn't expected to appear in a spring game until next week.
Ruben Tejada would likely take over at second in Murphy's absence.
