Reds' Phillips passes concussion test following collision
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was removed from Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs after a collision with Starlin Castro in the fourth inning left him feeling lightheaded.
Phillips, who passed a concussion test after the game, spent several minutes conferring with manager Bryan Price and trainer Paul Lessard after Castro fell on top of him, trying to apply a tag at third base. Though the 33-year-old remained in the game initially, he was replaced by Skip Schumaker in the top of the fifth after making a diving play in the field in the bottom of the fourth.
"It was kind of a foot race to third base. I think Castro took the throw on the run, and he and Brandon both went down," Price told reporters. "Somehow, Castro came down on Brandon and then Brandon had a whiplash type of event, I guess."
Price said he thinks Phillips could be able to play Wednesday.
Phillips went 1-for-2 before leaving the game, bumping his average to .300 through the first eight games of 2015, though he remains without an extra-base hit.
