Cubs' Ramirez to undergo MRI on shoulder
David Banks / USA TODAY Sports
Chicago Cubs right-hander Neil Ramirez exited Wednesday's contest with the Cincinnati Reds after three pitches with right shoulder discomfort.
The reliever was called into action in the ninth inning with a 5-0 lead, and grimaced after delivering his third pitch to Joey Votto. Manager Joe Maddon and team trainers didn't hesitate to remove Ramirez from the game in favor of Brian Schlitter.
Maddon called the injury "nothing real positive" following the game, and said Ramirez will be re-evaluated Thursday and undergo an MRI.
If Ramirez requires a stint on the disabled list, it could open up a roster spot for super prospect Kris Bryant.
