Dodgers recall Chris Heisey from Triple-A

In anticipation of their clash with San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner, the Los Angeles Dodgers recalled outfielder Chris Heisey from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday's game at AT&T Park.

Acquired from the Cincinnati Reds this winter, Heisey was optioned to Triple-A during the latter stages of spring training and has hit .257/.350/.629 with four home runs through his first 10 games in Oklahoma City. The 30-year-old will likely start Wednesday's game, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly emphasized Tuesday that Heisey is not merely insurance for outfielder Yasiel Puig, who continues to battle a strained left hamstring.

Heisey, though, hasn't had the most success against left-handers, hitting just .221/.273/.405 with a 21.3 percent strikeout rate in 441 plate appearances. Over 119 games with the Reds last season, Heisey managed a .643 OPS with eight home runs and nine stolen bases.

To make room for Heisey on the 25-man roster, the Dodgers optioned left-hander Adam Liberatore to Triple-A.
