Orioles place Flaherty on DL with groin strain
The Baltimore Orioles' infield depth took another hit Friday.
Ryan Flaherty was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 23, with a right groin strain. It comes less than a week after the Orioles lost starting second baseman Jonathan Schoop to a knee tear that's expected to sideline the 23-year-old for at least a couple months.
Flaherty, 28, was off to a scorching start, hitting .300/.400/.600 with two homers, three doubles and four RBIs through nine games. He injured himself during Wednesday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Orioles recalled Rey Navarro from Triple-A Norfolk to take Flaherty's spot on the active roster.
Baltimore is also without shortstop J.J. Hardy, who's been on the DL to start the season with a shoulder injury.
