D-backs' Bradley visits teen who was also hit in head by line drive
The most unfortunate event of Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Archie Bradley's young career comes with a silver lining.
Bradley currently resides on the disabled list after taking a line drive off the head on April 28. That same day, 14-year-old Nicholas Shumaker was also hit in the face during his high school game in Arizona.
"They hit a line drive right to me, and I put my glove up to catch it, and I just lost track of the ball ... I had three broken bones in my nose, and I cracked both of my orbital bones," Shumaker told Ty Brennan of FOX 10 Phoenix.
Once Bradley heard word of Shumaker's injury, he decided a trip to the hospital for a surprise visit was needed.
"The door opened and I thought it was going to be my doctor to take my vitals and stuff again, and I saw Archie Bradley, and it like made my day or my whole year, it was really cool," said Shumaker.
Caption: This is why I love my job! This is nick a 14 year old who was hit in the face by a line drive the same exact day I was! I got the pleasure to surprise him and his family yesterday at Phoenix children's hospital @phxchildrens and give him some signed items and just hangout and talk about our injury! He is one tough kid and he really put things in perspective for me about how lucky I am to be able to play this game!
