Astros place George Springer on 7-day concussion DL

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

George Springer demonstrated some remarkable tenacity in the outfield during the Houston Astros' 7-1 loss to the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

Barely 24 hours later, though, Springer was rewarded for his efforts with a trip to the disabled list.

Omitted from Wednesday's lineup after crashing into the outfield wall while making a stupendous catch during the seventh inning of Tuesday's loss, the 25-year-old was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list following a series of tests.

"We will make every decision for the health of George Springer," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said prior to Wednesday's game. "If he's symptomatic, we'll take that very seriously," Hinch said.

The Astros, meanwhile, dropped a third straight game Wednesday in Houston and will send Springer to the disabled list without much of the momentum generated by their recent 10-game winning streak remaining. Following a rough start to the season, Springer compiled an .863 OPS with three home runs, four doubles and nine walks in his last 12 games before landing on the disabled list.

The Astros will select Preston Tucker from Triple-A Fresno to take Springer's spot on the active roster, though the club will have to either designate a player for assignment or transfer someone to the 60-day disabled list to accommodate Tucker on the 40-man roster.
