Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed left-hander David Price will start Saturday's game in St. Louis despite suffering a mild right hamstring strain Friday night in a freak accident at Comerica Park.
Though Price will get a few extra days to rest his ailing hamstring - the 29-year-old was originally scheduled to start Thursday against the Minnesota Twins - he will not require a trip to the disabled list. Instead, the Tigers will alter their rotation to give Price a little more recovery time, as Anibal Sanchez will start Thursday - on normal rest due to Monday's off-day - before Shane Greene takes the ball for Friday's series opener against the Cardinals.
Price was removed from Friday's 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals after he stepped on Alex Gordon's bat in the seventh inning. Prior to his departure, Price allowed a career-high 13 hits over 6 1/3 innings while surrendering five runs - four earned - against Kansas City.
The four-time All-Star, owns a 3.30 ERA (128 ERA+) with a 1.23 WHIP over sevens starts this season, allowing just three home runs while notching 33 strikeouts across 46 1/3 innings.
