Braves' Miller records 4th career shutout after falling 1 out shy of no-hitter vs. Marlins

Atlanta Braves right-hander Shelby Miller was one out away from recording the 15th no-hitter in franchise history Sunday afternoon in Miami.

Justin Bour, however, wasn't prepared to let that happen.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Bour ripped a single into center field to shatter Miller's no-hit bid and snap a streak of 23 consecutive batters retired by the young right-hander following a second-inning walk to Marcell Ozuna.

Staked to a comfortable 6-0 lead, Miller surrendered a single to Dee Gordon immediately after Bour spoiled his chance at history, but proceeded to record his fourth career shutout after inducing a popout off the bat of Martin Prado to end the game. Miller's previous shutout came earlier this month, when he allowed just three hits while fanning eight in a 9-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Miller's brilliant performance, interestingly enough, came just one week after the two-year anniversary of the most memorable performance of his career. Miller, then with the St. Louis Cardinals, famously recorded 27 straight outs after allowing a leadoff single in a one-hit shutout against the Colorado Rockies back on May 11, 2013.

Though he lost his no-hit bid in the most excruciating manner imaginable, Miller whittled his earned run average down to 1.33 through eight starts following Sunday's performance, claiming the MLB lead in that department.
