Twins record first 20-win month since 1991

The Minnesota Twins had an incredible month of May.

With their come-from-behind 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, the Twins recorded at least 20 wins in a month for the first time since winning 22 games in June of 1991.

Following a 1-6 start, the Twins have gone 29-13 and have won seven of their last eight games. They head into June with a half-game lead over the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central.

"We want to prove the critics wrong," veteran outfielder Torii Hunter told reporters. "That's always fun. So they can swallow their words and choke on them."

It's been a remarkable transition in Minneapolis under rookie manager Paul Molitor. Minnesota were 24-25 at the same point last season and haven't had 30 wins before June since 2010.

"It's a really good month. When you win 20 games you're doing some good things," Molitor said. "It's a tough pace to keep up, but we'll take what the month gave us for sure."
