Blue Jays sweep Red Sox at Fenway, match franchise record with 11th straight win
The Toronto Blue Jays thoroughly enjoyed their time at Fenway Park this weekend.
Toronto used a six-run outburst in the fourth inning to cruise to a 13-5 victory Sunday over the Boston Red Sox to complete a three-game sweep, and match their franchise record by winning 11 consecutive games. The impressive run also ties the New York Mets for the longest winning streak in the majors this year.
Ryan Goins led the offensive charge for Toronto, belting a three-run homer as part of the barrage in the fourth, and adding a two-run double in the seventh to cap a five-RBI day. The Blue Jays have averaged an incredible eight runs per game during the streak, and scored six or more runs in 18 of their last 20 victories.
"The big one today was Goins," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He doesn't hit too many of them. ... It's a long lineup. And we're feeling good right now, we're hot. When you're hot, things can go your way. It's a good feeling in there and everybody's confident. It was a fun series."
David Ortiz belted his 475th career homer - a three-run shot - in the loss to move into a tie with Stan Musial and Willie Stargell for 29th on the all-time list. He has now homered in three of the last four games for the Red Sox, who have dropped six straight games.
"We're not in a good place right now as a team, but it's not because we're not giving effort," Boston manager John Farrell said after the game. "We're not executing completely."
Toronto now begins a four-game interleague series with the Mets beginning Monday in New York.
