Braves land 2 16-year-old prospects from Dominican Republic
ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with two 16-year-old players - shortstop Derian Cruz and outfielder Cristian Pache, both of the Dominican Republic.
Cruz and Pache will report to the Braves' Dominican Academy.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Cruz is a switch-hitter who was ranked by Baseball America as the fifth-best international prospect and the best overall athlete in the class.
Pache, who is 6-1 and weighs 180 pounds, was ranked by MLBPipeline.com as the 10th-best international prospect. He was 3 for 6 with a triple, walk, and stolen base in Major League Baseball's international showcase in February.
