Everything you need to know about the Home Run Derby: Matchups, rules, and predictions

Jeff Curry / USA TODAY Sports

The Home Run Derby is getting a serious makeover this year.

Last month, MLB announced a bracket format with tournament-style seeding, timed rounds, and distance-related bonuses. The overhaul promises to make it one of the quickest and most compelling competitions since the derby was introduced in 1985.

We've put together the ultimate guide below, with everything you need to know about Monday's event, including the contestants, format, and new rules. Also, be sure to join theScore for our live blog of the Derby beginning at 7:45 p.m. ET.

  • The Home Run Derby kicks off at 8 p.m. ET at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Other returnees include Josh Donaldson and Todd Frazier, who are both headed to their second consecutive Derby. Frazier made it to the finals last year, losing to eventual back-to-back champion Yoenis Cespedes.
