Report: Indians-Braves discussed trade involving Nick Swisher, Chris Johnson
Nick Swisher and Chris Johnson have been the subject of trade talks between the Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
The deal was discussed in early June, well before Swisher hit the disabled list with a knee issue.
Atlanta looked to be the team that nixed the deal due to disparity over 2015 salaries. Though Swisher is owed $22 million through 2016, he's being paid $15 million this season. Johnson is owed $20 million through the 2017 campaign, while earning $6 million this season.
Player | PA | AVG/OBP/SLG | HR | RBI | R |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Nick Swisher | 111 | .198/.261/.297 | 2 | 8 | 6 |
Chris Johnson | 119 | .252/.294/.333 | 1 | 7 | 9 |
Given how much Swisher is getting paid this year, how little he's performing, and the fact that he's still on the DL, he isn't an appealing trade chip.
The Braves, on the other hand, could still get some value out of Johnson, who is blocked by Los Angeles Dodgers trade acquisition Juan Uribe.
