The ink is barely dry on Dansby Swanson's first big-league contract, and he's already provided the Arizona Diamondbacks with a major injury scare.
The first overall pick in the 2015 draft was hit in the face with a pitch at the club's extended spring training facility Thursday, but didn't sustain any facial fractures, according to Baseball America.
Swanson will now remain in extended spring training indefinitely instead of the initial plan for him to join short-season Hillsboro.
Arizona gave the shortstop a $6.5-million signing bonus on July 17 after he slashed .335/.423/.623 with 15 homers during his junior campaign at Vanderbilt.
