LaTroy Hawkins 'excited' to begin tenure with Blue Jays
LaTroy Hawkins, the oldest active player in the major leagues, has played for 10 teams over more than two decades in professional baseball.
Still, the 42-year-old reliever was elated after being traded Tuesday morning, along with shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, to Toronto, the 11th and final stop of his meandering 21-year career.
"I'm excited to be going to an organization that has a chance to win, and they're showing the commitment to winning this year and for years to come," Hawkins told MLB.com's Thomas Harding. "I've got three good months left in me. Hopefully, I can help the Blue Jays get to the World Series and win the World Series. That's a wonderful way to end my career. I can't see a more fitting way to end it."

Over the last two seasons, Hawkins was a prominent member of the Colorado Rockies' bullpen, recording 23 saves for the club in 2014 before being relegated to a setup role this season. Still, the veteran right-hander crafted a 3.63 ERA (123 ERA+) with a 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 24 appearances before being traded Monday, and will likely serve a late-inning role upon joining the Blue Jays.
"Everything feels good," said Hawkins. "I'm excited to go to a place where there's humidity. I didn't let the altitude in Colorado bother me, but I'm happy to be back at sea level. I've seen a lot in my career, and I'm going to take full advantage of this opportunity and see where it ends up."
Hawkins, who noted Tulowitzki shares his excitement, will be available out the bullpen for the Blue Jays' series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday at Rogers Centre.
