Brandon Morrow's season has come to an unceremonious end.
The San Diego Padres hurler has elected to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, the team announced Saturday.
Morrow has been battling a shoulder impingement this season, the latest in a string of injuries to his throwing arm.
The 31-year-old was placed on the disabled list in May with shoulder inflammation. While trying to recover from the injury, he was forced to leave a rehab start in June due to discomfort.
The former first-round pick made five starts for the Padres this season, posting a 2.73 ERA and 1.09 WHIP after signing a one-year deal with the club this past offseason.
Morrow has frequented the DL six times since 2009, logging 768 2/3 innings of work in his nine-year career.
