The San Diego Padres have signed right-hander Bud Norris to a major-league contract for the remainder of the 2015 season.
Norris was designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles on July 31 and eventually released on August 8.
He made 18 appearances, 11 of which were starts for the Orioles, posting a 2-9 record with an ERA of 7.06.
Hitters were batting .309 against the former sixth-round pick, who also allowed 14 home runs in 66 1/3 innings of work.
The Padres also selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Colin Rea from Triple-A El Paso and designated reliever Dale Thayer for assignment, while outrighting catcher Tim Federowicz to Triple-A.
Reliever Brandon Maurer was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation Tuesday, so Norris is expected to take his spot in the Padres bullpen.
