Blue Jays' Stroman says Dr. Andrews 'stunned' by progression of injured knee

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman received some encouraging news from one of the sports world's most renowned surgeons in his rehab from a torn ACL.

Stroman was given the go-ahead by Dr. James Andrews on Monday during a follow-up exam in which the surgeon apparently marveled at the success the 24-year-old has had post-surgery.

"Dr. Andrews was stunned by the progression of my knee. Shattering time tables," Stroman announced on Twitter.

"Hard-work always pays off," he added.

Stroman underwent the initially surgery in March and has held the goal of returning to the mound in September. He's been tentatively scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Aug. 21 with the hopes of rejoining the major-league team.

"We're on board if he can pull it off," manager John Gibbons told reporters earlier this month. "But we're not going to do anything stupid, either."

Stroman went 11-6 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 130 2/3 innings in 2014.
