Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco was removed from Tuesday's game after taking an 89-mph fastball off his left-wrist from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Jeremy Hellickson in the first inning.
Franco immediately ran out of the batter's box in pain before being attended to by the team's training staff. He walked off the field holding onto his wrist and was eventually diagnosed with a contusion.
"I was scared. The only thing I was thinking about when the ball hit me was that it was broken," Franco told reporters.
The 22-year-old is one of the National League's top rookies. In 76 games, he's hitting .277/.338/.490 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs.
