The San Diego Padres received some sparkling defense from shortstop Alexi Amarista on Wednesday.
Amarista looked like a whirling dervish when he made an incredible sliding attempt against the Atlanta Braves, which concluded with a spinning glove flip to second baseman Jedd Gyorko to start a double play.

Amarista has played shortstop, second, and third base, as well as outfield and even pitcher for the Padres this season.
The versatile Amarista's stellar play in the field has been one of the consistencies in a strange season for the Padres, who were picked as an early season favorite to win the National League West, but currently sit 9.5 games behind division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
