Wright, Mets clobber Phillies with franchise-record 8 home runs
On a night when New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom was at his worst, his team's offense was at its best.
The Mets went deep a franchise-record eight times on Monday at Citizens Bank Park in a 16-7 demolition of the Philadelphia Phillies in the first of a three game series.
DeGrom allowed a career-high seven runs (six earned) off eight hits – including three home runs – and two walks before manager Terry Collins pulled him after 2 2/3 innings trailing 7-2.
"I don't think I located one pitch." deGrom told reporters.
Fueled by the return of third baseman David Wright from a four-month stint on the disabled list, the Mets' bats came alive to score 14 unanswered runs. Wright, Juan Lagares, Travis d'Arnaud, Michael Cuddyer, Yoenis Cespedes and Daniel Murphy all hit home runs, while Wilmer Flores went deep twice.
"You look at each other and you just go, 'Wow,'" Collins said.

Murphy cranked a two-run home run to extend the lead to 11-7 in the sixth inning, tying the Mets' franchise record previously set against the Phillies in 2005. Three innings later, Cespedes homered in the ninth to set the franchise mark and become the seventh different Mets' batter to go deep.

Phillies pitchers Adam Morgan, Hector Neris, Justin De Fratus and Adam Loewen were responsible for the eight home runs, as the four surrendered 16 runs off 20 hits.
The combined 11 home runs in the game tied a National League record, and fell one shy of the all-time record. It's also the first time in major-league history that 10 different players homered, according to ESPN.
New York, which increased its division lead to a season-high 5 1/2 games, have scored 49 runs in its last four games.
"This team seems like it's on a mission," Wright said.
