Giants designate Maxwell for assignment

San Francisco Giants outfielder Justin Maxwell was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday, Amy Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis:
This is pretty surprising to see, as Maxwell has spent the entire season to this point on the active roster, but apparently the Giants have decided the 31-year-old's glove isn't enough to compensate for his bat (.209/.275/.341). Outfielders Angel Pagan and Alejandro De Aza were both added to the team's expanded September roster.
