Will Ferrell honored by Hall of Fame, premiers spring training documentary at Petco
Will Ferrell's unforgettable journey through the Cactus League several months ago, wherein the 47-year-old actor and comedian played 10 positions for 10 teams in one magical day, received institutional recognition Saturday night.
Ferrell, whose exploits were chronicled in an HBO documentary entitled "Ferrell Takes the Field," received a commemorative plaque and jersey from Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson following the Los Angeles Dodgers' 2-0 victory over the San Diego Padres. Shortly thereafter, Ferrell screened his upcoming film for fans that opted to hang around.
"With all due respect to Cal Ripken Jr., tonight's inductee is an Iron Man of sorts," Idelson said to the crowd. "Even though his career only lasted 12 hours."

Of greater import than a plaque in Cooperstown, however, is that Ferrell's efforts helped raise more than $1 million for charity, with donations headed to "Stand Up For Cancer" and "Cancer For College." The latter organization was founded by Ferrell's fraternity brother, Craig Pollard, and awards college scholarships to cancer survivors.
The 47-minute documentary earned largely positive reviews from fans and will air on HBO on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 p.m. ET.
