Braves' Miller sets franchise record with 23rd straight winless outing
Luck isn't on Shelby Miller's side.
The Atlanta Braves right-hander made history Monday, and not the kind to be proud of.
Miller set a franchise record when he left Monday's contest against the New York Mets with his team down 2-0, as it marked his 23rd consecutive start without a win.
"As bad as my streak has been, we're still playing hard baseball, and that is all that matters to me," Miller told reporters. "It would be a lot different if it was going this way and it didn't seem like anybody was trying."
The 24-year-old hasn't earned a victory for the Braves since his May 17 outing against the Miami Marlins. Atlanta has played 114 games since his last victory and 17 different Braves pitchers have won at least one game during that span.
Despite the winless streak and his 5-16 record, Miller owns a 3.00 ERA, so it's his teammates who deserve much of the blame.
"At the end of the day, where I sit with myself and where my stuff is and how my year has gone, it's been good," Miller said. "Obviously, I've had some ups and downs. You learn from those things and you take the positives and develop yourself into a better person, pitcher and teammate."
The former first-round pick was traded in the offseason to the Braves along with Tyrell Jenkins from the St. Louis Cardinals, in exchange for Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden.
