Chris Sale just keeps on sitting down hitters.

The Chicago White Sox left-hander, who leads the American League in strikeouts, notched his 1,000th career strikeout on Thursday when he sent New York Yankees outfielder Chris Young packing with an 81-mph slider.

Sale finished Thursday's contest against the Yankees with eight strikeouts, pushing his season total to 267 - just three shy of breaking the White Sox single-season record set by Hall of Famer Ed Walsh in 1908.

"When you start thinking about, for us and the White Sox, of how long that record has been around, it has been around a long time," White Sox manager Robin Ventura told reporters. "Any time you put him in the category with Ed Walsh, it's pretty impressive."
