San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner claims he didn't know who the home plate umpire was in Thursday night's game at Petco Park.

After their epic 17-second staredown, Joe West most certainly knows who Bumgarner is.

The tightly wound West and uber-intense Bumgarner each flexed their muscles during the sixth inning following a pair of earlier calls that didn't go the lefty's way.

The hostilities began when West rung up Bumgarner on a called third strike in the second inning, prompting a brief exchange between the two as the Giants pitcher walked off the field. A few innings later, Bumgarner's emotions appeared to boil over after he issued a walk to San Diego Padres second baseman Jedd Gyorko.

"Joe was behind the plate?" Bumgarner deadpanned to reporters after the game. "I don't pay attention to the umpires. I didn't even realize he was back there."
