Report: Cubs have potential agreement with Eddy Julio Martinez
Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports
Just two days after a reported deal between Eddy Julio Martinez and the San Francisco Giants fell through, another suitor has emerged for the Cuban outfielder's services.
The Chicago Cubs and Martinez have a potential agreement in place, which contains a $3-million signing bonus, pending a physical, according to ESPN's Keith Law.
Martinez and the Giants reportedly agreed to a $2.5-million signing bonus, which was nixed by the 20-year-old's father, who was seeking a bonus closer to the $3 million being offered by the Cubs, reports MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez.
Martinez is considered one of the top international talents available after spending two seasons with Cuba's Serie Nacional.
