Free agent Span to workout for teams in new year
Denard Span is looking for a turnaround in 2016 after spending the majority of last season on the disabled list with a plethora of injuries.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports Span's agent Scott Boras has told interested teams his client will be available for workouts in the new year to show he's recovered from September hip surgery.
Crasnick lists the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres as clubs who could be a fit for the 31-year-old.
The Mets and Orioles have both shown interest in Span since November and are in need of an outfielder, while a reunion with the Washington Nationals could be possible, as the club has reportedly stayed in touch with its former center fielder and lead-off man.
The 31-year-old appeared in only 61 games in 2015 because of injuries to his hip, back, knee, and abdomen.
He hit .301/.365/.431 with five home runs, 22 RBIs, and 11 stolen bases and owns a career .287/.352/.395 slash line with 37 home runs, 336 RBIs, and 152 stolen bases.
