Report: Orioles engaging top free-agent outfielders
The Baltimore Orioles desperately need to acquire a corner outfielder, and may be willing to break the bank to do so.
Baltimore is engaging some of the top free-agent outfielders, including Yoenis Cespedes, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
The outfield market is still rich with talent. Alex Gordon, Justin Upton, Denard Span, Dexter Fowler, Alex Rios, and others still need to find new homes before the spring.
Baltimore revoked an offer to slugger Chris Davis reportedly worth $150 million following the winter meetings so it could allocate some or all of those funds to addressing outfield issues.
Hyun-soo Kim and L.J. Hoes are currently projected to start in the corner outfield spots for the Orioles next year. Kim just signed a two-year deal to leave Korea and play in the majors, and Hoes has never earned a starting job over the course of his four-year career.
Executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette has retained the services of reliever Darren O'Day and Matt Wieters this fall, and acquired slugger Mark Trumbo from the Seattle Mariners.
