Report: Marlins, Rangers discussing Ozuna trade

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

With Alex Gordon officially off the board after signing a four-year, $72-million contract to return to Kansas City, the market for Miami Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna appears to be suddenly moving fast.

According to a source of Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, the Marlins have spoken with multiple teams, including one on the west coast, about a trade involving Ozuna.

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports the Texas Rangers have discussed sending right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez and perhaps another piece to the Marlins in exchange for the 25-year-old Ozuna.

This isn't the first time Ozuna's name has appeared in trade rumors during the offseason, as the Seattle Mariners were reportedly working to acquire the Dominican in late November, despite general manager Michael Hill stating the club wasn't looking to trade him.

Ozuna, who's reportedly rubbed Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria the wrong way, struggled last season. After posting a .269/.317/.455 slash line with 23 home runs and 85 RBIs in 2014, his line sunk to .259/.308/.383 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs in 2015, and he was demoted to the minors for a spell.
