Orioles acquire Efren Navarro from Angels
The Baltimore Orioles added some more depth to their revamped outfield Tuesday afternoon, acquiring Efren Navarro from the Los Angeles Angels for cash considerations.
Navarro, who was designated for assignment last week, appeared in 54 games for the Angels in 2015, hitting .253/.295/.301 (70 OPS+) in 88 plate appearances while managing six defensive runs saved during his time in left field and at first base. Over parts of four seasons in the majors, Navarro owns a .627 OPS (81 OPS+) while producing 0.6 wins above replacement in 130 games.
The 30-year-old will likely open the season with Triple-A Norfolk or serve as a fourth outfielder on Baltimore's roster, providing a left-handed hitting complement to newcomer Hyun-soo Kim or vying with Henry Urrutia for playing time in right field.
In order to create a spot for Navarro on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated outfielder L.J. Hoes for assignment.
