A winner in the Lazarito Armenteros sweepstakes could be declared as early as next week.
The 16-year-old Cuban phenom is drawing serious interest from nine teams, and could decide which club he'll sign with as early as Feb. 10, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez.
One team particularly keen on Armenteros is the Atlanta Braves, who have been stocking up on high-upside prospects this offseason as part of their rebuilding effort.
Armenteros is expected to command up to a $20-million signing bonus, and has the ability to play the outfield, and the corner infield spots.
The teenager has taken up residence in Haiti, and is represented by an agency owned by the cousin of former major leaguers Jerry Hairston Jr. and Scott Hairston.
