Manfred reacts to Trump's tweet about Cubs: 'Oh, Lord'

Commissioner Rob Manfred responded to controversial comments made Monday by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who warned Chicago Cubs ownership to be "careful" after suggesting the Ricketts family was funding attacks against his campaign.

"Oh, Lord," Manfred said, according to the Chicago-Sun Times, when a reporter broached the subject during a spring training media session in Phoenix on Monday.

"There are so many things that have been out there as part of the political process," he said when asked if the league was concerned over Trump's tweet. "If each and every thing that gets said was the subject of concern or something you should be concerned about, people would be walking around with their heads spinning due to concern."

Campaign financial reports show that Marlene Ricketts, the wife of Joe Ricketts, contributed $3 million to Our Principles PAC - a group that has spent millions publishing ads and videos opposing Trump, who remains the Republican frontrunner after easily winning the South Carolina primary on Saturday.

Manfred said in spite of Trump's outspoken remarks, the Ricketts family remains in good standing with the league.

"The Ricketts have been great owners," he said. "And I’m very comfortable with the idea that the Ricketts have been great trustees for baseball in Chicago and will continue to be."
