The New York Yankees have stepped in to cool down Goose Gossage after the Hall of Famer put himself in hot water on Thursday.

After stirring up the baseball world with his comments directed towards several major leaguers, including Jose Bautista and Yoenis Cespedes, as well as calling out "nerds," the New York Yankees sat down with Gossage to discuss his comments.

"Everything is good; I just kind of lost my mind there for a minute," Gossage told Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News after meeting with general manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi. "You're talking to an old school guy, man; there are things that I have a hard time with. The game taught me a long time ago (to) control what you can control and don't fret all the other stuff. It's just what it is. I said what I said yesterday and that's it.

"They told me where they were coming from and they knew where I was coming from. I understood some things where they were coming from. It was a good meeting. All is well."

Despite having a cooler head on Friday, the 64-year-old former Yankees reliever doesn't regret making the comments and still believes that ball players can learn from an older era.

"I said what I said," Gossage said. "I was passed the torch a certain way to act. Flipping the bat was not part of it. All the things I said, Bautista just came into my mind. I was asked a question and I got it off my chest. Hopefully they think about it, because nobody else is going to tell them not to do it. None of their teammates. Act like Jeter. Act like Mo. Act like a professional, that's all."

Gossage was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008 after 22 years in the big leagues, which included a career 3.01 ERA and 310 saves.
