Trout lost weight, doesn't have appetite after illness
Mike Trout missed his second straight spring game Friday due to a nasty stomach virus, which is wreaking havoc with his baseball routine leading up to Opening Day.
"I'm better now," Trout told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times on Friday. "The last couple days I've been a little shaky. My body has been aching. I'm not feeling well, I haven't eaten much, and I've lost some weight. I'm trying to get my appetite back."
Trout took batting practice and felt healthy enough to play his part in pranking teammate Garrett Richards earlier in the day.
"I had to come out here and get my body moving. I was laid up for two or three days," Trout added. "I wanted to get out of the house. It's good to be out here with the guys."
Los Angeles has two more spring games before opening the regular season Monday against the Chicago Cubs, which will hopefully give Trout enough time to return to 100 percent.
The 24-year-old hit .299/.397/.559 with 41 homers and 90 RBIs to finish second in American League MVP voting last season.
