Federico Higuain out 5-7 weeks after undergoing hernia surgery
Columbus Crew star man Federico Higuain will miss the next five-to-seven weeks of MLS action after undergoing surgery to repair a hernia injury, the club announced Thursday.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Richard Cattey, and the club confirmed the injury was successfully treated.
The Argentine attacking midfielder could miss up to eight matches in the next seven weeks, with the club resuming league play against the Montreal Impact on Saturday.
The 34-year-old's absence will certainly be felt, as Higuain has already scored three goals and recorded three assists in 13 starts.
His struggling side, currently second from last in the Eastern Conference, is still dealing with the loss of top scorer Kei Kamara, who was traded to the New England Revolution after publicly dressing down Higuain.
