Toronto FC midfield duo Bradley, Johnson to miss 6 weeks

Reuters

Toronto FC's midfield took a massive blow on Friday, when the club announced that both captain Michael Bradley and lynchpin Will Johnson will be out of action for six weeks with respective injuries.

The American star has been diagnosed with a knee sprain, suffered while on international duty at the Copa America Centenario. His Canadian counterpart, meanwhile, suffered a tibial plateau fracture while scoring the decisive goal in the waning seconds of Wednesday's Amway Canadian Championship final against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Bradley, 28, picked up the injury in the third-place match of the Centenario against Colombia, leaving the contest in the 79th minute. He had played every minute of the tournament until that point.

Should both meet the expected timetable for their return, they will be available for the Aug. 13 meeting with the Houston Dynamo.

Injury ravaged TFC, sitting seventh in the Eastern Conference on 19 points from 15 matches, is already without goalkeeper Clint Irwin (quad) for six weeks, while Jozy Altidore continues to recover from a hamstring ailment.
