Van Damme, Acosta replace Besler for 2016 MLS All-Star Game
LA Galaxy central defender Jelle Van Damme and FC Dallas midfielder Kellyn Acosta have been added to the 2016 MLS All-Star roster, with Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler forced to withdraw from the team due to injury.
Portland Timbers defender Liam Ridgewell is also facing fitness issues and will undergo a medical to determine his availability before a decision is made regarding his status.
Van Damme joined the LA Galaxy out of Standard Liege this season and joins fellow Belgium international Laurent Ciman in Dominic Kinnear's All-Star team that is set to take on Arsenal at Avaya Stadium on July 29.
His teammate, Giovani Dos Santos, is the only other representative of the LA Galaxy, as star striker Robbie Keane and former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard did not receive nods, nor did left full-back Ashley Cole.
Acosta, 21, is a product of the FC Dallas academy and is the first player from the academy to make the MLS All-Star Team.
