Didier Drogba was at the heart of a heated verbal exchange with a pair of New York Red Bulls fans following Montreal's 1-0 loss on Saturday, the Ivorian striker and an Impact staff member trading barbs with an overzealous, scarf-bearing duo after the final whistle.
Security stepped in to separate the two parties, while Drogba seemed to apologize to other fans in the area who witnessed the argument.
"There were two fans who were showing their enthusiasm a little too much," Drogba was quoted as saying after the incident.
"They crossed the line a bit, that's all."
Saturday's win saw the Red Bulls clinch a playoff spot, with city rival NYCFC and Toronto FC also booking postseason berths by virtue of the result.
