Chicago Fire sign Jorge Rodrigo Bava
Matt Lampson is no longer all by his lonesome minding the net for the Chicago Fire as the club announced Sunday the acquisition of goalkeeper Jorge Rodrigo Bava. The Uruguayan shot-stopper joins the club on a 1-year contract with options for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
The 35-year-old made 21 appearances for Colombian outfit Atletico Bucaramanga last season.
"Bava is technically clean, comfortable off his line and a good organizer of the defense," Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez said in the announcement. "His skill set is complementary to that of Matt Lampson and we expect him to compete for playing time."
The Chicago Fire were in need of reinforcements in its goalkeeping ranks as preferred starter Sean Johnson was traded to New York City FC, leaving Lampson with no available backups.
