Philadelphia Union sign Jay Simpson from Leyton Orient
The Philadelphia Union announced Monday the club has signed forward Jay Simpson from League Two outfit Leyton Orient using Targeted Allocation Money, bringing on the English striker as a Discovery Signing.
"Jay brings goal-scoring prowess to our team, in addition to a valuable veteran presence, as he has demonstrated with multiple clubs in England," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said in a club-issued statement. "He has played at the highest levels of club soccer, including in the Premier League, and we are excited to add a forward of his quality to our squad."
Simpson began his senior career as a member of the 2007 Arsenal squad but was loaned out to Millwall, West Brom, and QPR over the course of the next four years. He then made a switch to Hull City in 2010 and went on to enjoy a three-year tenure with the club.
The 28-year-old joins C.J. Sapong and Charlie Davies among Philadelphia's attacking ranks, having scored 25 goals in 45 appearances during the 2015-16 campaign with Leyton Orient, his last complete season.
