Akron winger Jonathan Lewis is set to begin his MLS journey with New York City FC after being selected third overall in the 2017 SuperDraft on a Generation Adidas contract.
NYCFC traded $250,000 in General Allocation Money to the Chicago Fire in exchange for the third pick and selected Lewis afterward.
The 19-year-old, who made 22 appearances in one season with Akron, brings with him two goals, 12 assists, and experience playing for the Chicago Fire Academy and the U.S. under-20 national team.
While he has experience with the U.S. national team's youth ranks, he has also considered representing Jamaica, and has participated in a Jamaican national team training camp.
