Highly-touted Maryland right full-back Chris Odoi-Atsem is heading to D.C. United after being selected 12th overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
The 5-foot-10 defender, 21, joins Ben Olsen's side having made 88 appearances over four seasons with Maryland, where he scored three goals and recorded eight assists.
Odoi-Atsem will have a chance to contribute right away, as D.C. United employs just one out-and-out right full-back in Sean Franklin.
However, Olsen has used Nick DeLeon in that position at times last season, so it remains to be seen whether this move frees him up to return to a midfield position, or if Odoi-Atsem is seen as a longer-term replacement to Franklin.
