Crew SC selects Niko Hansen with 9th overall pick in 2017 SuperDraft

Columbus Crew SC picked its second player in the first round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, opting to select Niko Hansen out of the University of New Mexico with the No. 9 pick. The Danish winger scored 28 goals and recorded 14 assists over four seasons and 79 appearances with New Mexico.
Hansen, born in Randers, Denmark, joins Crew SC having scored 13 goals and recorded three assists in 21 appearances in the 2016 season.
He joins a Columbus team that also selected Lalas Abubakar with the fifth overall pick in the draft and will compete with Ethan Finlay, Justin Meram, Hector Jimenez, and Cristian Martinez for a spot out wide in Gregg Berhalter's side.
