News circulated from North Carolina on Friday that legendary NFL wide receiver Randy Moss was swapping gloves to become a goalkeeper for the Charlotte Independence of the United Soccer League (USL).
And it was fun to believe for a few hours.
The former Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, and New England Patriots wideout pulled off an early April Fools' Day prank, as he was "announced" as Charlotte's newest signing ahead of Saturday's season opener against the Charleston Battery.
"Renewing my career is something that I've thought about for a long time now," Moss said on the team's website. "I'm excited to get started with the Charlotte Independence and show the world that I can be a two-sport athlete."
But as Yahoo Sports writer Eric Edholm observed, the first letter of each sentence in the fake press release spelled out the joke: A-P-R-I-L-F-O-O-L-S.
