Kaka's lighthearted humour resulted in a red card Saturday night when the Brazilian playfully confronted his former teammate Aurelien Collin.
The Orlando City star seemingly attempted to extinguish an injury-time squabble with New York Red Bulls players by grabbing Collin by the face from behind.
The two players shared a laugh after Collin initially looked perturbed until realising it was Kaka.
Nonetheless, referee Jorge Gonzales was having none of it and promptly brandished a red card after consulting the newly implemented video review system and determining Kaka was guilty of violent conduct.
Orlando lost the match 3-1.
