Giovinco fined for not leaving field in timely manner after red card vs. Revs
Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco was fined an undisclosed amount by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for failing to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after being sent off in Saturday's loss to the New England Revolution.
After scoring a late penalty to bring Toronto within one, Giovinco, aiming to restart the match quickly, took offense when Wilfried Zahibo apparently attempted to knock the ball away from him. In retaliation, Giovinco grasped at Zahibo's face, earning himself an expulsion from the contest after a quick video review.
After being dismissed, however, the Italian protested the red card with the fourth official on the sideline, who, along with Toronto's head coach Greg Vanney, could be seen gesturing for Giovinco to come off the pitch.
The defending MLS Cup champions lost by a final score of 3-2 - Toronto's sixth loss in nine MLS games.
