Philadelphia Union's new mascot is a snake 'reborn with arms and legs'
The Philadelphia Union's first-ever mascot has finally been unveiled.
The team introduced fans to Phang, a giant blue snake with four limbs and a mohawk, during an event at the Philadelphia Zoo on Monday.

There was understandably some confusion about why Phang has arms and legs.
"Long story short, a regular snake tied a ball to an old metal cleat, got struck by lightning, turned into an egg and was reborn with arms and legs," the team explained in a tweet.
To create their mascot, the Union enlisted the help of children, focus groups, and the original Phillie Phanatic (David Raymond). Along with Phang, the top four finalists included Ben Franklin, river monsters, and bridge trolls, according to Brian Hickey of PhillyVoice.
